You must earn 5,000 Base XP in victorious battles. The second mission chain comprises five missions with the same condition.

With Update 0.9.3 an unlimited number of economic and special signals (one each) can be mounted. A maximum of eight (8) combat signals can be flown simultaneously. In game, they confer combat or economic bonuses to the ship flying them. Signals are small flag-like pennants, displayed individually or as a set, that nominally are used to communicate to other ships.
